Afstudeeropdracht: Predictive Maintenance

Are you looking for a graduation assignment where you can make a difference? Would you like to work in challenging working environment in the state-of-the-art factory in Zwolle? Then this is an interesting opportunity for you.

Graduation assignment description

At Euroma, we collect billions of data entries per year, consisting of discrete and continuous data. We would like to use these data to (preventively) and automatically recognize malfunctions and deviations in our processes.

Examples of these exceptions are:

  • An AGV (automated guided vehicle) has difficulties reading the barcode of specific stations;
  • Another AGV sometimes deviates a few centimeters from the track when approaching a specific station;
  • A specific valve in a mixer gives a couple of times per week the malfunction "valve end-position not reached", while the other mixers do not have this issue.
  • The motor of a mixer X needs more ampere to reach a certain frequency than the other similar motors;
  • There is a negative trend in the conveying speed from a specific silo: it used to be 5000 kg/h and it is now conveying at 4400 kg/h.

Currently, we often notice these exceptions only when these cause downtime. The control room (which operates 24/7) needs to observe these exceptions manually. First, they analyze the malfunction to see whether or not they can solve the problem themselves. If not, our technical department will react on the exception. This causes unnecessary and costly downtime and unplanned maintenance.

We are looking for a student who can help us go from noticing and handling exceptions manually one by one to moving towards a more predictive and automated process (with statistical models / machine learning). This should help us to act more proactively, reduce downtime, improve reliability and increase the efficiency in the factory.
