Euroma's new building works perfectly on track
Anyone driving on the A28 motorway near Zwolle in the Netherlands will see that the construction of Euroma's new factory is progressing rapidly. All efforts are focused on getting Europe's most innovative and sustainable herbs and spices factory up and running by mid-2019. Construction is proceeding exactly to plan. What does the arrival of this factory mean for you and us?
Back to its roots
As a result of ever-increasing production, Euroma has been looking for a new production location. Together with our construction partners, we are building a factory in Zwolle of no less than 26,000 m2, of which approx. 1,900 m2 will be office space -. This Hanseatic city is the place where Antonij ten Doesschate founded a company in 1899 specialising in herbs, spices and pharmaceutical products. Thus, after a period of 46 years, Euroma is returning to the city where it's roots were first laid down. And where we hope to do business for a long time to come.
Prepared for the future
The new factory will allow us to take a big step towards the future. We will be able to process large volumes of herbs and spices in the production environment. We are already operating at the highest level of food safety, but we are carrying out various modernisations in order to guarantee this quality for the future. The mixing plant and the warehouse will be connected together; raw materials will be supplied in a balanced way and digital monitoring of the weighing process will prevent any deviations. The new silos, from which we fill the mixers, are part of closed systems. This virtually eliminates the risk of cross-contamination.
In addition, there will be an innovation centre in which we will soon have the most modern facilities allowing our multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative food concepts and achieve product improvements for our customers. The innovation centre consists of modern kitchens and a sensory area where a trained tasting panel evaluate products. Finally, we are realising an excellent logistics centre in the new high bay warehouse with fully automatic pallet cranes.
Sustainability performance
Future-proof construction goes hand in hand with sustainability. Euroma's factory will have a sustainability performance rating within the BREEAM Excellent class. We are devoting a great deal of attention to contributing to the energy transition and to reducing the carbon footprint. The factory roof will be equipped with solar panels and will have a very high insulation value. Thanks to additional measures to reduce power consumption, we will be, for a large part, self-sufficient.
There will be facilities for electric cars and bicycles for our employees and visitors. We also want to create a more natural experience for them. We are paying a lot of attention to air quality and lighting, among other things. We're also giving Mother Nature a helping hand. A herb garden and an insect hotel will feature in the landscaping. The rainwater that falls on the roofs will be directed back to the environment via a wadi, a pit in which the rainwater can percolate into the soil.
Controlled commissioning
The commissioning plans are ready. The new factory will be commissioned in phases, under the supervision of an experienced transition team. Only when production is really ready to start shall we begin operations. Until then, we will continue production in our current factories in Wapenveld, Puttershoek and Utrecht. In this way, we can ensure that production is safeguarded at all times.

Do you want to follow the construction online? There are two webcams on site which are recording the construction in real time. You can find them at adst.bouwwebcam.nl/euroma and adst.bouwwebcam.nl/euroma2.
We are also making a time-lapse video of the entire construction process. You can watch the video so far, here.
