Euroma's journey to Indonesia

Last week, Euroma's procurement and vendor quality team returned from a trip to Indonesia, during which various hotspots in Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi were visited. We explored the entire supply chain of several spices. Auditing a supplier was also one of the objectives.

DSC_0478.JPGIt was fantastic to see the nutmeg trees growing in a beautiful tropical environment. We met local farmers and gained insight into nutmeg and mace cultivation, from harvesting to the drying process. In addition to nutmeg and mace cultivation, we also visited the areas where cloves grow. These areas are often higher in elevation and particularly steep.

DSC_0638.JPGIn the heart of a village where turmeric (as well as galangal and ginger) is grown, we were welcomed by local families who pass down the art of turmeric cultivation from generation to generation. Although turmeric is grown in a different area, the environment is just as lush and green as that of nutmeg and cloves. We witnessed the process of turmeric cultivation, from planting the rhizomes to harvesting the roots.

Our journey not only expanded our understanding of these spices but also shed light on the various challenges and risks inherent in these processes. For 125 years Euroma has gone all over the world searching for the best herbs and spices. From this rich history, we have built up long-term partnerships with the very best suppliers.
